Bosco

Male (Altered) — Date of Birth: 03/26/2008 (16 years old (Senior))
Labrador Retriever Mix
Bosco is a little package with BIG returns. He is such a smooth tempered dog I can"t pick out one best feature; He gets along well with other dogs although he has been a "lone" dog for so long that he has forgotten how to play. He is perfectly house trained and crate trained. He pulls a little bit on the leash as you start your walk but settles down very quickly. He wants very much to be your special dog and lays quietly at your side or near you on the floor. However, he seems to understand that he is just a visitor at my house and doesn't demand attention when my own dogs are being petted. His bark is remarkable. First of all, he does not bark often but when he does, his voice sounds like a great big German Sheppard (in reality, Bosco is only about 25 pounds). Once you let him know that there is no danger, he stops barking and waits patiently for his treat. When walking, he does not bark at strangers, bikes, cars - nothing flusters him. But if a fox should happen by, well then the hound comes out and you can hear the howl. At home, we have two cats. Bosco will look at them and sometimes sniff but has no interest at all in chasing them. But he is not a couch potato either; when my dogs play, he trots after them and would like to join in the fun. His coat is also unusual. He would be described as a short-haired dog but the hair is about an inch long and very silky. The rain just drips off of him so he is very easy to keep clean. The silky texture of his hair makes me think there might be some Norwegian Elkhound in his background. Bosco is the kind of dog who would be very loyal to his leader ?he would expect to be told what is acceptable and what is not (for example, he jumped on my bed and I simply told him "no" and that was the end of that behavior). Like a child with a good parent, he expects consistent rules and will follow them without needing any form of punishment. For those of you who are interested in a therapy dog; Bosco has bite inhibition and is very calm. I have not seen him frightened of anything.
