Abe and Grant are in search of a new home because their family does not have the time for them. Although these brothers love each others company, we believe they will be fine being placed in separate homes. They are very playful, happy-go lucky young boys.

Abel it such a great little boy. He is all lab and just loves the kiddie pool. He is super smart and super friendly. He loves kids and other dogs.

Hi, there!  My name is Abel; but, my foster mom calls me Dog Genius!  She says that is because I learn everything so quickly!  It really is amazing!  I am already house-trained and am practicing other skills such as "come","go potty", and "high five"…all in just two days in my new foster home.  I guess that does make me a dog genius!  I am a Shepard mix, who is still very much puppy.  In discussing my ideal forever home with my foster mom, we've decided that I would probably thrive in a home with a lot of action.  She thinks I'd possibly like a family with kids and/or other dogs because I like to have LOTS of attention.  I just can't help myself…I am the life of the party! House-Training:  DONE!  I am Dog Genius, afterall. Other dogs: I enjoy romping and wrestling, but also know when I need to take a break and can chew on my play toys peacefully. Children: My foster mom hasn't seen me with children, but I do like sitting on her elderly father-in-law's lap.  Afterall, I am pretty sure I was born to be a lap dog.  In fact, I wouldn't mind snuggling 24 hours per day if they'd let me. Crate Training: Not my favorite.  But, I settle down within a few minutes. I am an energetic, sweet, fun-loving cuddle bug!  I am super smart and easy to train!  Just be ready for LOTS and LOTS of closeness, as I LOVE humans!

Axel and Abel came to AFH with their mom and siblings. They are very sweet and have a wonderful personalitty. They love to have fun and every one they meet is their new best friend. There's not a toy out there that doesn't inspire them to play, play play! Just spend a minute to get to know they and they will steal your heart. They are both crate trained and housebroken and getting better in the leash every day.

Abigail is a sweet little girl that was left at the Nicholas County Shelter. She has arrived at AFH and is sharing her foster home with other dogs, cats and children. She does chase cats but it appears she only wants to play, so either a very tolerant cat or a no-cat home is recommended. She loves the kids in the house and does not seem bothered by the Toddler Squeals at all. She loves to cuddle, is crate trained and we are working on housetraining her. When she first came to us, she didn't like to be inside. She would always ask to go out, but now she has decided that the couch beats outdoors any day. Won't you give this loving, friendly girl a home?

Abigail is a 1 year-old, pure-bred Sheltie. She is both house and crate trained. Her foster mom says that she is a typical "velcro" sheltie--once she falls in love with you, she will never leave your side. She shares her current home with small kids and is good with them. She also gets along with the other dogs and cats in the house.

Abigail is a Terrier mix, with some Poodle and Pomeranian in her. She is used to children and other animals, and loves anyone she meets. She came into rescue when her owner, who was breeding small dogs, suddenly passed away.

Abby is very sweet. We were told she was about 8 years old but think she may be younger. She is really thin because she escaped when she first came in and was out in the cold for a week. She is now safely in her foster home and has been eating well and sleeping a lot. She is recovering from her time outside very well. Her current foster family adopted her grand-daughter and have two 9 yr old greyhounds--she gets along very well with all of the other dogs. She is also good with children of all ages and is in a home with a 5, 11 and 16 year old. She has been sleeping in the bed the 5 year old. Abigail is house trained and has the run of the house when her foster mom is not home. (Abigail is pregnant and will not be available for adoption until her pups are born and weaned.) UPDATE: The pups are here!!!! They were born 1/25/09 and there are 7 of them. Mom and pups are healthy and doing well.

Abigail came to us from the Page County shelter. She was left there with Breeze and Jujube by their owner. We don't know her actual age, but we know she is a young adult.

Shown here is an update of Abigail's pups. There are 6 in total. 2 girls (one is gold and white and the other is white and black like mom) and 4 boys (2 black w/white markings, 1 brown w/black mask and markings and 1 white and black). These pups are ready to be adopted. Bobo, Zeva and Kate have been adopted. The ones pictured here are still available.

Trixie is a very sweet Chihuahua mix.  This little sweetheart landed in a shelter in southern Virginia and her family never came looking for her. She is a loving, playful girl. She loves other dogs and is good with everyone.

Abner is one cute little puppy (about 3.5 months old). It's amazing to his foster parents that this fantastic pup hasn't been scooped up. Even though he is slightly smaller than his siblings, Abner will (literally) jump into the action ?flying down steps and racing to get a ball or toy. He shows a single mindedness when he focuses on something. Typical puppy, Abner will play hard and then be ready for nap time. If you want some puppy kisses, Abner is happy to oblige. He loves a belly rub or any form of human attention. Abner came to rescue a little worse for wear - he had some infected cuts and scrapes which have since healed. His potty training is coming along well and he loves his crate for bedtime. Abner deserves to be a member of a loving forever home. His foster family thinks he is one sweet boy.

This litter of six is just Absolutely Fabulous. There are four boys and two girls. Their mother was a small sheltie mix, but no word on dad. You just can't buy a puppy this beautiful...You've got to rescue to get this kind of gorgeous! Melonie and Melivin are still available. The rest of the pups are adopted.

Acacia is a pure-bred, black and tan min pin. She was given up by the breeder because she recently whelped two pups and the breeder felt she was not producing well enough to keep. Because she has always lived outside in a breeding kennel she is a little shy. She is friendly with people and good with other dogs. She is now crate trained and we are working on the housetraining. Applications for Acacia are being accepted now.

Hi, my name is Acadia. I will have to type fast because I am a busy girl. Too brag a little, I have a beautiful chocolate colored coat with touches of white on my nose, chest and paws. I love this family thing - the eating, playing and best of all - the loving. My foster mom says I am doing really well with the house training. And I am already crate trained - whatever that means! I like to play with my foster brother - he runs really fast, but I also like to keep my human family in sight. They say my forever home is almost ready - is it with you??

Ace is a Poodle mix with mostly white fur and some cream coloring. He was dropped off in a Maryland shelter and saved from a backyard breeder. Out of 21 dogs and puppies rescued, Ace was in the worst shape and required immediate veterinary care. He has a super sweet disposition and gazes into our eyes with a great deal of gratitude for helping him. With his former life as a stud behind him, Ace is looking for a family who will teach him how amazing life can be when loved and cared for. Will you be that family?
