AJ, Abby, Amos, and Amy came to us from a shelter in West Virginia. Mom is a pure-bred Black and Tan Coonhound and Dad is unknown.

Breed: Labrador Retriever / Great Dane Mix
Age: 6 years
Gender: Male (Neutered)

Aksel/Sylvester is a very sweet, curious boy. He appears to have some Bassett mixed in, although we were told he is a Lab/Great Dane mix. In any case, he is more the size of a Bassett than a Lab and nowhere near the size of a Dane. Aksel is relatively calm, especially for  his young age. He is great on a leash and crate trained. He is mostly housebroken with just a few accidents. He also doesn't chew, a huge plus. He is good with dogs and kids and seems to be interested in chase and play. He is not wild about meeting new people, especially at adoption events, but warms up quickly in a home environment. We are working on improving his confidence.

Alana is a very young but very sweet mommy dog. She takes very good care of her puppies and when she goes out to go to the bathroom she always comes back in and checks on them. Alana has a very soft brownish fur. She is very loving wanting to be pleasing to everyone. She is crate trained and walks well on a leash. Once her pups are weaned and she is spayed she is available to go home. You may apply for her at any time.

Alana and her mom (Anastacia) were left at a shelter together. They say Alana is only 9 weeks, but we think she is probably older. We don't know what her mix is and can not say what her final size will be.

Amadeus is Brown and tan in color. He is a very sweet boy, who wants to go and see all there is in this big world. Along with his brother Amerigo they want to explore as much as they can. Amerigo is black and white. He is aptly named after the explorer Amerigo Vespucci. Whenever anyone approaches his pen he is always the first to greet the person. Albany, Bronze, Cranberry, Dante, Evion, Fritzy, and Gracin are adorable Border Collie Mix puppies! This is a big litter of seven - 6 girls and 1 boy. They are very sweet and love to curl up in your lap and nap or just hang out. Very playful and not a bit shy. These little ones are comfortable around older dogs and children - loving to romp and play. They are an unusually happy bunch who are very healthy and robust! Alec was left at a shelter in North Carolina with his puppy William. He is a very sweet & quiet dog.  We would describe Alec as kind, good-natured and affectionate  He loves to play outside and go on walks. He is calm and family friendly.  Our 5 year old calls him cutie pie.

Aleu, as you can see, is a gorgeous Husky/Shepherd mix. She is an energetic dog, who is looking for a new home where she will have room to run or maybe an owner that loves to jog. She is crate trained and likes other dogs and children. She is wary of strangers, but warms up to people very quickly. She can easily jump a chain link fence, so she would do best in a home with a fence she can't climb or jump over.

This handsome guy was rescued from a rural shelter, along with his litter mate Amy. He has one blue eye and one black eye. When he is full grown we estimate that he will be about 40 pounds. Because he is a border collie mix, we expect him to be very intelligent and trainable.

Alex is the last one left of his litter. As you can see, Alex takes more after the Shepherd side of the family. Shepherds are very smart, loyal dogs, and are highly trainable.

Alex is a sweet little boy. Although he came to the shelter very scared, he is friendly and loving.

Breed: Miniature Pinscher / Beagle Mix

Alex came to us from the Nicholas County Shelter. He currently only weighs about 13 pounds and should not get much bigger. His foster mom says that he loves to play with his toys. Alex is both house trained and crate trained. He is a very smart puppy and catches on very quickly.

Breed: Basset Hound
Age: 14 years
Gender: Female

Alex is short like a Basset Hound (though taller and sleeker) and has the ever-sniffing nose of a Bloodhound. Her long ears are surprisingly soft and has soulful, come-pet-me eyes! She has a sweet, playful disposition with plenty of energy on walks and romping around the backyard. She romps up the stairs without any problem and would be happy to sit in your lap, if given the opportunity. She is housetrained and only seems to bark when playing. Alex does fine with other dogs and, while she has not been around cats, she is very laid-back. She may have enjoyed a few too many people snacks in the past, as her nose knows when you have something tasty.

Alex and Ellie's owner is in his 80's and in poor health. After a quadruple bypass, a pacemaker, and a broken collarbone, he has decided he must find them a new home. Alex looks to be a lab/hound/rottie mix. He is 10 years old, and his original owner was killed in 9-11. Alex survived for a number of weeks in his owner's apartment with another dog until someone found them. They were taken to a shelter where Alex's buddy was was adopted the same day they arrived, and Alex was left there alone until rescued by his owner today. Alex has a gentle soul and is very quiet natured. Ellie is a 6 year-old, dalmation/lab mix and ended up at the shelter after wandering the streets. She was emaciated, had a broken pelvis, and had been abused. Her current owner adopted her and nursed her back to health both emotionally and physically. Today, Ellie is a hapy, healthy girl who loves to sit on her owner's lap (when he lets her!). She likes to "mother" Alex and is energetic and playful. Please find it in your heart to give Alex and Ellie a loving home and their owner the peace of mind that his dogs will be loved as he loved them.

Alexa is a beautiful pointer. She is loving, cuddly, and loves to play.  She’s is housetrained and crate trained. She enjoys going for walks with her mom, but is also happy in the backyard hanging out with the last of her pups. She thinks a lap is the best place to be and just loves kids. If you let her, she will give our lots of kisses.  Sometimes Alexa acts like she can’t believe how lucky she is to be getting attention and tummy rubs.  If you bring her into your home, she will be eternally grateful for any bits of love that are tossed her way and will shower you with all the love you can imagine.

Alexa and her pups came to us from Alabama. They were is very poor shape when the arrived as some were not nursing and one had breathing problems. We have been very lucky to have a team of volunteers that jumped in to help these poor babies, bottle feeding and nebulizing them. Thanks to our dedicated volunteers, this litter is now thriving and are all doing very well. We believe they will make a full recovery and can not wait to find their forever homes!
