Description: Alex and Ellie's owner is in his 80's and in poor health. After a quadruple bypass, a pacemaker, and a broken collarbone, he has decided he must find them a new home. Alex looks to be a lab/hound/rottie mix. He is 10 years old, and his original owner was killed in 9-11. Alex survived for a number of weeks in his owner's apartment with another dog until someone found them. They were taken to a shelter where Alex's buddy was was adopted the same day they arrived, and Alex was left there alone until rescued by his owner today. Alex has a gentle soul and is very quiet natured. Ellie is a 6 year-old, dalmation/lab mix and ended up at the shelter after wandering the streets. She was emaciated, had a broken pelvis, and had been abused. Her current owner adopted her and nursed her back to health both emotionally and physically. Today, Ellie is a hapy, healthy girl who loves to sit on her owner's lap (when he lets her!). She likes to "mother" Alex and is energetic and playful. Please find it in your heart to give Alex and Ellie a loving home and their owner the peace of mind that his dogs will be loved as he loved them.

Description: Hi, my name is Alice. I am beagle/dachshund mix. I am housebroken, crate trained and moderately active. My favorite past time is spending time with my foster mom and my foster sister who I am laying with in the picture. She says I am an angel because I don't chew on anything and she can trust me when I am out of her site. I am not good with young children as they make me nervous so I would do best in a home with no children under 12 years of age. I prefer to be the only pet so I can get all the hugs and kisses. I walk nicely on a leash and am not a big barker.

Description: This handsome guy is Archie. Archie is a male Retriever and just loves life. Archie listens very well and will sit and lay for you. Archie really wants a good loving home where he can be the only dog and where he will not be living with children.

Description: Belle is a sweet dog in search of friendship, love and comfort. She tends to enjoy being a super loyal friend to mainly one person and doesn't want to have you out of her sight. Belle warms up quickly to women and those who are soft spoken. Hanging out in the yard, going for car rides, or just hanging around the house are all things Belle has a good time doing if she is in your company. She would do well as an only dog or as a part of a dog pack. Belle enjoys the company of her many foster dog friends, but also craves to be the center of her loyal friend's attention. Belle is fully housetrained and crate trained. She is a very smart lady dog and can do several fun tricks, including "What up dog?" (fancy shake), "Roll Over", and even balance a treat on her nose. Description: Brisbane came to AFH with her siblings. She is a pure-bred double merle Australian Shepherd. Double merle is how breeders refer to a litter when both parents were merle in color. About 25% of pups from a double merle litter could have hearing or sight impairments. Until she is older, we will not be able to determine for certain whether she has either of these "defects". Description: Henry is a happy-go-lucky two-year-old, 100-lb purebred St. Bernard. He was rescued from a shelter in W. Va. along with four other dogs he lived with, when their owner could no longer care for them due to cancer. He came with the name Brutus, but the name really doesn't fit, so he now responds to Henry. Henry's personality is exuberant, and because of his excitement and jumping in the air when wanting to play or upon seeing his owners, he must go to a house that does not have small children. He loves going for his morning and evening walks, as well as having his tummy petted, playing fetch with a ball, and chewing bones. He gets along very well with other dogs he sees on his walks. Once he attaches himself to a family, he can become protective, so he needs to be the only dog in the house. (His owners very sadly have to give him up because he eventually did not get along with their other dog.) Henry will be coming to adoption events and hope you will come to see him soon!

Description: My name is Cherry and I am super sweet like the fruit! I am a 9 month old black lab mix. I love my human friends and will make a great family dog for a lucky family. I have been living with my foster family for over two weeks now. They have two little girls who like to play with me in the backyard. I love to run around, fetch tennis balls and just be around humans (adults or kids!) I love people so much that I don't like to be outside alone and I will wait for you at the back door. I am pretty good at walking on a leash and my foster mom takes me for long walks every morning. I am house broken and crate trained. I don't like to be in my crate very much (I like to be with people more) but I rest in there when my foster family isn't home. I am learning to follow commands like sit and stay and I can shake hands too. I love to chew on my chew toys and have been known to chew a stray flip flop but I never chew on the furniture or other things I am not suppose to. I don't know what the big deal is about people food either. I happily lay under the table while my foster family is having dinner. I just like to be near them and I have never tried to jump up and take food from the table or counter (that would be just plain rude!). I love to please my humans and think maybe a puppy training class would be good for both of us! I am a sweet, beautiful girl who is looking for a loving forever home. I can't wait to meet you!

Description: Hello! My name is Chewy and I am 4 months old. My brother and sister just got adopted and I am looking for MY forever home now. I have a beautiful black coat with a white spot on my chest. I love to play and my foster mom gets so excited because when she throws the ball to me I bring it back to her. I love to wrestle and play with my siblings but sometimes I get a little carried away and get upset when they take my toys. My foster mom says I just need a little training. Description: China is looking for her new home because her dad now has to travel a lot for work and he can not be home enough for her. She is doing great and is crate trained. She is very close to being housebroken (can hold it all night and about 5 hours during the day). She knows how to sit, stay, come, and shake. Description: Hi, my name is Cierra. I am a chihuahua mix (probably mixed with spitz or shiba inu). I am housebroken and crate trained. My foster mom says I am an active girl and need a lot of exercise. I certainly have the chihuahua trait of being nervous when I first meet you, but once I warm up I do just fine. I am not good with young children as they make me nervous so I would be best in a home with no children under 12 years of age. I am good with most other submissive small to medium dogs as I want to be the boss. My foster mom says no cats or other small animals because I am not nice to them.

Description: All six pups will make great family pets! They are very playful and affectionate. They love to sleep in their crate and they go to the bathroom in their designated "potty section" of their pen. Vegas and Austin have both been adopted. Austin: Austin is the smallest, furriest, all black male of the bunch. He is one of the quietest and the sweetest, too! He LOVES to be held. He will lie quietly on your lap and fall asleep or play with his toy, just enjoying being with his human companion!

Savannah: Savannah is the smallest, all black female. She loves to be held and petted and will rest her head on your shoulder. However, don't underestimate her size! She? got a big personality. She may be small and cuddly, but she doesn't let her brothers and sisters push her around!

Wilmington (Will): Will is the biggest, all black male. He is very playful (one of the more playful pups) and will even take a flying leap over his brothers and sisters just to get in on the action! He also loves to be around people and be petted. Will LOVES the water bottle (I squirt it in his mouth). He definitely shows qualities of a Lab.

San Diego (Sandy): Sandy is the smallest brown and black female. Like all of her sisters and brothers, she loves to be held and petted and is very affectionate. However, she loves to play too! She is often seen wrestling with Mimi. Her toe nails are painted red (to tell her apart).

Miami (Mimi): Mimi is the middle sized brown and black female. She is often seen wrestling with Sandy. She, too, is affectionate and loves to play with her toys on your lap. Her toe nails are painted pink (to tell her apart).

Vegas: Vegas is the biggest brown and black female. She is often seen wrestling with Will or playing tug-of-war. Like Will, she LOVES licking water out of the water bottle! She is one of the more active pups. Vegas is a lot of fun! Sandy and Austin have been adopted.

Description: Coal is a wonderful boy. He is playful and loving and very smart. He loves playing with his friend Maggie at his foster home, but would really like to find a home of his own. Coal has received obedience training and has done very well. When he is adopted, his new family will also receive training so that he will continue to be the best doggie he can be.

Description: If you look up the word "puppy" in the dictionary you are bound to see a picture of Daisy. This wonderful 11 week old beagle mix (some say there is a bit of chihuahua in there) is the quintisential happy pup. In addition to being one of the most adorable little girls ever to grace the dog park she is funny, smart, playful, adventurous, and full of life. She loves everyone and everything (although due to her size it is probably best that she be with a family without very small children and/or large dogs). Once she has had her share of playing she is more than happy to curl up on your lap. She is well behaved and has been amazing so far with regard to house breaking. You could almost set your clock by her digestive system! Daisy's mom was recently adopted and now Daisy is searching for her new family. She will absolutely fill your home with joy.

Description: Hello! My name is Desi and I am a purebred Chihuahua and weigh only 7 pounds. I was rescued from a place called a puppy mill. I lived in a cage 24/7. Although I received little to no socialization, I've since made great strides. I just learned what a toy is and I LOVE to play with my foster brothers and sisters. My foster mom and her dogs are teaching me what it is like to be a family dog. In time I am sure I will overcome my fear of people and the outdoors, but I am going to need a family to show me lots of patience. I will need a family to continue my socialization, to teach me that I do not need to be so fearful with strangers. I am going to need someone to keep me on a schedule so that I know what to expect and help me get house trained and crate trained. I am looking for a family with older or no children, as the little kids are very noisy and intimidating for a nervous guy like me. I'm hoping my family will have another small dog as they could help show me the ropes. Can you be that family, to help me learn what it is like to be free and live without always being in fear? It may take me time, but I promise once I learn to trust you I will be able to return your love ten fold.

Description: My name is Dixie. I am an Airedale Terrier Mix. I had a litter of puppies (four to be exact). I came from a shelter in West Virginia along with my babies. The shelter we were at had a septic system problem and we needed to be rescued from this situation so I and my babies want to thank my foster parents and AFH for rescuing us. We now have a chance at finding our "Forever" home. I love to give kisses and I wag my tail when I see you. I am a very playful girl.
