Description: Mindy is a Boxer mix pup. She came to us from the Fayette County shelter.

Description: Mocha (or "Cooter" as his foster family calls him) is now a TV star on the Fox Morning News (check the front of the AFH website for the URL). Mocha is just a love bug looking a loving rub behind his big ole floppy ears. He is a real sweet dog and is looking for a loving person(s) to take him home with them. Eager to please and be with people of all ages and genders. He is very good-natured and pretty well behaved, but he is a beagle and his nose always to the ground sniffing. He understands the word "No" and is quick to correct, but you must be with him in order for him to realize what you expect him to do. He still has a lot of puppy play in him; he loves playing chase and rough-housing in the big back yard playing with her foster sister Taffie. He is a very energetic and curious doggie always checking stuff out. He loves to be outdoors and makes sure he is always the last one to come inside. He was also the quickest to learn the game of fetch...and he will run after the ball and bring it right back to you to throw again and again.

Description: Muck was adopted at 5 months old and just recently returned because his owner lost their job. He is brown and white and approx 40#. He is good with other dogs, kids, and likes cats but chases them. He is crate trained and 90% housebroken, which will need to be reinforced in his new home. He was born August 2008 to a mother hound that was dumped at a WV shelter two days before she gave birth, only 8 of the 12 puppies survived due to the extreme malnutrition that the mother had suffered. Description: Oliver Twist was adopted out from AFH as a puppy. He has recently been returned to AFH because his owners lost their home and couldn't take him with them. Oliver is a very loving dog. He loves to give kisses and enjoys playing with toys and chewing dog bones. He's still a young puppy and is working on housetraining. He loved his master (Juwaan) who was disabled and was very affectionate with him. Oliver always worried when Juwaan was sad and would give him a kiss in his hand to cheer him up. Oliver will make a wonderful friend and would be a great addition to a family that has other dogs or kids.

Description: Oreo loves to go to dog parks and plays well with the Golden in his current home. He loves to go on walks and for rides in the car. He is housetrained but would do well in a home without small children. More information to follow.

Description: I'm Pamela Patti. I was named for 2 special ladies, so you know that I'm doubly special. I am not at all pushy or aggressive. If you just want to sit with me and pet me, that is quite enough. I'm not too excited about doing all that running around that so many puppies like. I'm just a nice young lady. I could probably be fully house-trained in short order. I still do puppy things, like drag my blankets all over. There are no cats that I've seen, but I am not the chasing kind of girl, I don't think. I live with Rosemary (her picture is here too), and we have fun together. It is quiet here, and so I don't know about cars and traffic, but I'm willing to learn. Almost every day I get a cooked soup bone that keeps me busy for a while. If I lived with you, would you have soup bones there? Do you like my picture? I could be some kind of coon hound, or maybe some beagle, but no matter what, I am just soooooo cute! Will you come visit?

Description: Patton is one handsome boy! He is about 40 lbs and probably has attained his full height. He is calmer than the other ones and looks at the situation before he bounds in to play. He is very food motivated and knows how to sit for a treat now. Patton is about 90% housebroken, he still needs to work on making it through the night and needs to be let out immediately after eating. He is very loving and likes to snuggle after playing. Patton is neutered and current with his shots. He is good with other dogs and he likes to chase cats but just to play with them, so no elderly animals. He very timid around small or rambunctious children at first, his new owner will need to help ease him in these situations. Description: Penny is such a cute little girl. She is looking for a new home because of divorce and a change in her living situation. Penny is housebroken and good with cats. She is doing great in her foster home. Surprisingly (for a small dog) she loves the kids and they are loving her back. :) A wonderful family dog!

Description: Phoebe is a sweet beagle, approximately 2 years old. She gets along well with children and other dogs. She loves to play with stuffed animals and her two puppies. She'll gaze up at you with her beautiful brown eyes, and when you rub her ears she just melts. Please help her find her forever home and she'll reward you with loving devotion and loyalty.

Description: Radar is a great little, 7 pounds Chi/Doxie mix. He is a people oriented little doggie, indeed; your lap will never be empty again. He loves car rides and long walks. He will want to sleep with you under the bedsheets, way under the bedsheets.

Description: Rusty is a very sweet, smooth coated, and quiet miniature dachshund. He was rescued from the West Virginia puppy mill. Because he was crated for the first three years of his life, he does not interact as a "normally raised" doxie would behave. He does not "play", or interact much with people, dogs, cats, or perhaps any other creature. Hence, he is very happy trotting around the house and taking naps. Rusty is a young dog with an old soul, spending most of his time napping on his bed or beside you on a chair or sofa, after he stops shaking. His only barking, or defensive behavior has been when another dog accidentally steps on him in his foster home. Rusty would do well in a home where he will be given patience, and treated very gently. He is not able to climb stairs. Rusty does have diminished eyesight, but is not blind yet. With his vision problem he will require extra love and attention. He is not likely to learn how to go outside, unless he has a way to simply walk outside by himself. Possible in warmer weather, when a door might be left open for him to wander outside. Currently he will signal that he needs to relieve himself by wandering. Usually after he has awakened from a nap. If his adopter is in the vicinity, they will be able to pick him up and take him outside. In his current setting, he has several puppy pee pads strategically located for him to use, when no one is watching attentively. He usually hits the mark, but an adopter should be prepared that he is NOT batting 100%. His foster has seen little points of light of improvement, but they are slow. For instance, he has learned how to walk over an entryway threshold, or door mat.

Description: Sadie is a beautiful sheltie mix. When she first arrived at our rescue, she was shy and fearful but her foster mom has been working on gaining her confidence and teaching her that she does not need to be so afraid. Already she is showing great signs of improvement. At this point, we believe she would do best in a home without children. She loves her foster brothers but other female dogs not so much. As you can see, she likes puppies.

Description: Sage is a beautiful girl. She had been working with a Barkbusters trainer and is making tremendous progress. She has learned to trust her foster family and is doing better with some of the other dogs in her home. The only thing that distracts her is when she hears her foster daddy's footstep or voice, then foster mom has to work her extra hard to obey, but she does obey. Sage will make the perfect dog for a family without small children and other dogs, but cats are fine. Sage wants to spend the rest of her life with a family who will let her sit next to them. She is leash trained, sits well, and is crate trained. FYI, her Barkbuster's Lifetime contract will transfer to her new adopter so that they can continue working with her.

Description: NOTE: THIS PUP IS NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME DUE TO HER MEDICAL CONDITION. PLEASE KEEP AN EYE ON OUR WEBSITE FOR UPDATES. Scarlett is a pure-bred Yorkie and weighs about 4 lbs. She came to us with a severe heart murmur ("PDA" is the medical term) which required surgery. She just had her surgery and she will have a follow up visit with the specialist in early December to make sure she is okay. Once she is cleared by the vet, she will be available for adoption.

Description: Scupper is a sweet boy with a great personality. He's completely crate and house trained. He loves to play tug-o-war with his foster brother Bailey. Even though he's skinny he's a fairly tall dog, so he would do best in a home with older children. Scupper does have a little fear of certain dogs and some men, however, I have not had any problem with him when there's been a proper introduction. We are working on some in-house manners and he's responding VERY well. Please come visit him at the next adoption event.
