JusticeJustice - (Male) - Available

Breed: Pointer Mix
Age: 16 Months
Weight: 75 Pounds
History: Shelter - AWLA

Description: Hi, I'm Justice. You can see from my picture that I'm one good looking, young, stud. My foster mom said that I'm "fixed". I'm not sure what that means but regardless, I'm still "the man"! I'm only about a year old and I weigh about 75 lbs. You can see that I try to keep in good shape and am nice and slim. The girls love that! Everyone says that I'm really handsome and very unique looking. I'm all white, except for a big brown spot on my back, some on my ears and a big patch over my left eye. My foster mom says she loves my pink nose and big paws. What can I say? When you got it, you got it! Anyway, I'm also a bit goofy and I have A LOT of energy. I have been known to fly. Well actually it is like a big leap in the air and I'm able to run really fast and then jump on the furniture. It kind of looks like I'm flying. Because I have not spent much time in a home, I need some help on my manners. We are working on that now and the dogs that I live with now are helping me to learn. But I'm totally potty and crate trained and I walk well on a leash. So, basically I'm perfect except that you'll have to be firm with me for a few months until I really catch on to how to live in a home instead of the shelter. Please send us an email, if you would like to meet me. It will be worth your while.

Sincerely, Justice

KaiKai - (Male) - Available

Breed: Pekingese
Age: Adult
History: Hoarder/Breeder

Description: Hi everybody. I am a sweet little guy who loves to be talked to. I'm still a little nervous around people because of where I came from. I get along great with my foster sister and my foster Mom's cats. Demon and I race all through the house playing tag. My foster Mom is working on the housebreaking. I haven't quite gotten the hang of it yet, but I'm trying. Kids kind of scare me, but there a lot of them coming in and out of here, so I'm sure I'll get used to them. I am crate trained and go into my crate by choice most of the time, as this is where I feel the safest. I have just started to get on the couch and lay next to my foster Mom. I know that soon I will be an all around guy and will make someone a great companion.

Kayla and KayleeKayla and Kaylee - (Female) - Available

Breed: Pekingese
Age: Years
History: Shelter - Roane County

Description: Hi! My name is Kayla, and this is my best friend, Kaylee. We went to the vet recently and were told we are about 3 year and 2 year old, respectively. I was also told I have heartworm, but I am now getting treatment and will be AOK very soon. Kaylee and I are calm, gentle and very sweet dogs. We are also really great friends. We can be a little bit nervous around new people, but once we get to know you we are ready for some attention! That is good of course, because when our long hair grows back, we will require a lot of grooming! We are learning a lot about living in a home, which is fine with us (except for the stairs). We both learned how to go up the stairs, but Kaylee hasn't figured out a good way to get back down yet! We love to play, with each other or with other dogs that want to play, too. We also love to go out in the yard or for walks, but we are still getting used to wearing a leash...Don't worry, we are super-smart and will have all of this down-pat pretty soon! If you are looking for a nice, quiet companion to share your heart and your home, please consider me (Kayla) or Kaylee!"

Breed: Pekingese
Age: Years
Weight: 11 Pounds
History: Shelter - Roane County

Description: Hi my name is Kruz....when I first came to my foster mom's home I wasn't kruzing around much...I felt really bad, I was underweight, skin rash, ear problem and unloved.....well, let me tell you, all of that has changed! I am a kruzer around the house and yard, although stairs still mystify me, I love people, but I am a little cautious at first, I am almost 100% housetrained, we are still working on that, I have a very silly personality, I like to crawl on my stomach and make twitter sounds to get your attention, I sleep all night and will not get up until you do, I love sitting on the couch watching TV with my foster mom and dad, I have a very calm nature and have only barked a couple of times, I also do well on a harness and leash. I have put on weight and I am really a very good looking little boy. By the way, my eyes are not shinning green they are actually a beautiful brown...someone needs to learn how to use a camera! If you like peke's or if you just like a wonderful little guy, please email AFH and come and see me. I will be at adoption events in the near future....I am being neutered tomorrow so it will be a couple of weeks before I can get to an event. Please come see me....I deserve a really loving home after what I have been through.

Lizzie's pupsLizzie's pups - (Mixed Gender) - Available

Breed: Beagle
Age: 12 Weeks
History: Shelter

Description: Lulu and Lenny are Lizzie's pups, and they could not be more adorable if they tried! They were born in a rural Virginia shelter, and were rescued just in time. Their mom is a pure-bred beagle, and they look a lot like her, with stunning tri-color markings. The breed of their dad is unknown, but it's possible he was another beagle or possibly a basset hound, if their looks are any indication. They are just starting to explore the world around them, and are coming into their own. They will be available for adoption at 8 weeks of age in mid-August. However, they can be seen when they are 6 weeks of age at their foster-s home once they have had their first set of shots. Apply now, because they will not be available for long!

LoopyLoopy - (Male) - Available

Breed: Chihuahua
Age: 4 Years
Weight: 12 Pounds
History: Shelter/Breeder

Description: Loopy is an absolutely beautiful AKC registered blue Chihuahua. He recently came to AFH through a high-kill shelter when his owners could no longer care for him. He is a high energy, athletic little dog that is very intelligent (will 'sit' for a treat, retrieves a ball) and is always eager to be a part of the action. Loopy seeks affection and is very content to rest in someone's arms. The sight of his leash makes him jump for joy in anticipation of a brisk walk. He is neutered, house broken and sleeps soundly within the gated confines of the kitchen. He does enjoy barking and may become a little aggressive with play and other dogs, so we'll be working on this in his foster home. With these tendencies, he may not be the right temperament for families with young children. Loopy loves the fenced backyard and may be best suited in a single family home. He will have a physical and will be updated on his vaccines in the near future. Though his previous owners relinquished him, Loopy's endearing qualities are proof positive that he deserves a permanent, loving forever home. Please contact us for a visit!

LukeLuke - (Male) - Available

Breed: Corgi / Cattle Dog Mix
Age: 5 Years
Weight: 33 Pounds
History: Owner Release

Description: Hello, I am Luke. I came to AFH like other dogs because my family did not properly train me (or the kids in the house) and then just gave up when I was not a perfect dog around them. They told AFH that I was difficult, but my foster family has discovered that this is not true at all. I was so scared when I came to AFH, but now I am much more confident around dogs and people. I love to play with the other foster dogs in the house. I am crate trained, housebroken, and leash trained.I like the teenager who lives in my foster home. However, I would do best in a home without small children. Now, that I have been trained as to the proper way to be a good dog, I am ready to find my forever home. Please come meet me so that we can begin a new life together.

Maggie MayMaggie May - (Female) - Available

Breed: Cocker Spaniel
Age: 2 Years
History: Hoarding Case

Description: Hi! My name is Maggie Mae and I am about 2 years old and a beautiful chocolate brown and white cocker spaniel. I came from a place that had way too many dogs. Although despite how bad it was there I am a very sweet little girl that wants to curl up on your lap and just be with people. I am house trained and crate trained. I LOVE to go on walks and am very excited when you get my leash. I am also good with other dogs and am pretty decent around my foster kitties (I will chase if they get in my face). I am afraid I do get a bit possessive with my food, bones, and toys. This behavior can be modified in time as I learn who is boss, learn basic obedience and eventually learn to share. However it will be best if I found a home that does not have young children as they may try and take my food and I am not going to understand. I am okay in taking treats from your hand although I tend to jump up and grab it. My foster mom is starting to work with me, teaching me who is boss, and introducing the basic commands. Although, I am not very patient and lose interest fast, eventually I will get it. Over all I am a real sweet dog and will make a great family dog as I want nothing more than your attention. My energy level is perfect for apartments, as I am calm indoors. When I am outside I get energetic and always wanting to be on the go. If you have any questions or would like to see me please e-mail or visit me at our adoption events. I look forward to curling up on your lap.

MarleyMarley - (Female) - Available

Breed: Great Dane / Shepherd Mix
Age: 15 Months
Weight: 55 Pounds
History: Shelter - Nicholas County

Description: Marley is a very sweet, well-behaved Great Dane/German Shepard mix so please don't hold her name against her! She is between a year and two years old, 55 pounds, completely housebroken, and spayed. When she came to our home, she already knew basic commands and was housebroken. She definitely was someone's pet before ending up at the shelter and clearly had her world rocked before being rescued by AFH. She would be the perfect dog for someone who wants that extremely loyal companion who doesn't need a lot of exercise and will always be lying at your feet, leaning on your leg, or very nearby throwing her Kong or stuffed animal up in the air and chasing it! She currently is living with two dogs and a cat but is still adapting to the cat (she does not try and hurt the cat but will not leave it alone!). Marley has very many traits of the Great Dane breed. She is easy going and very mild mannered with people, is slightly wary of strangers at first, but warms up quickly (especially with a treat!). She has a very deep Great Dane voice and will alert when she hears an unusual sound outside. Like the Great Dane, she is dominant and pushy with other dogs so would be best in a home with a dog that is submissive. She also would be perfectly fine as an only dog but would not do well being left for long periods of time. The good news is she does not slobber and drool like the Great Dane! Marley really is an absolute sweetheart. If you have room in your home and heart for Marley, please contact AFH.

McKenzieMcKenzie - (Female) - Available

Breed: Australian Shepherd
Age: 2 Years
Weight: 10 Pounds
History: Owner Release

Description: McKenzie is a pure-bred, Red Merle, toy Australian Shepherd. She loves to be a "lap" dog and would make an excellent pet for someone with an apartment or townhouse. However don't be put off by her small size, she can keep up with the bigger dogs all day long and yet fit in your lap when the time comes.

Loyal, affectionate, agile and attentive, McKenzie is eager to please and enjoys learning new things. She has recently learned sit, come, stay, down and take it. She is learning to jump into your arms on command. McKenzie is approximately ten pounds and seems to enjoy playing with other smaller dogs on a one on one basis. She tolerates cats if you are firm with her not to bark at them. She loves to sit by your feet or on your lap and is happiest when she is with her person. She is currently housebroken, she stays in her crate during the day and in the bedroom at night in her bed. She did experience some separation anxiety when she first came to her foster home and will need someone to be patient with her. She loves treats and can be food aggressive with other dogs but she responds extremely well to positive reinforcement and will now eat side by side with another dog she knows. She rides well in the car and likes to take trips to Petsmart and the park. McKenzie would be best with adults or older children who can treat her gently. She is an adorable, easy keeping dog who would love to be your new friend.

Millie the SetterMillie the Setter - (Female) - Available

Breed: English Setter
Age: 18 Months
History: Shelter - Fayette County

Description: Hi, my name is Millie. I am an English setter for those of you that don't know what that is, English setter is a breed that hunts and retrieves birds and brings the bird back to the owner. This description definitely fits me although when I am off leash in the backyard, I don't come back because I'm focused on those birds so instead I am taken out front on a leash which is ok with me. I am housetrained and I am good with everyone I meet. I love attention and can't wait to get my forever home.
